We work collaboratively with the Sports Doctors (formerly SportsMed medical). The South Island’s preeminent group of Sports Physicians, with 2 specialist sports doctors and 4 sports medicine registrars.
Sports Doctors specialise in providing top quality advice and management of acute and chronic injuries to help you recover from your injury and maximise your performance.
They will assess your needs and determine the appropriate plan to manage your situation. This may include medical interventions such as Shockwave therapy, Ultrasound guided injections, compartment pressure testing or referral to surgeons.
Our team, will assess your needs and where it is appropriate we will refer you to the Sports Doctors to ensure you get the best possible treatment for your situation. Having a variety of expertise all on site enables the collaborative discussion between colleagues to optimise your recovery.
If you’re wanting to manage an injury, reduce pain, rehabilitate after surgery or improve your performance, then Motus sportshub physios can help.
We have more than 12 physios on-site who are qualified, skilled and experienced in working with sports-related injuries as well as helping with injury prevention.
We have expertise in treating a wide variety of sports injuries and our team members often have specific knowledge of your chosen sport, having either played it, worked in it, or studied it.
Plus our fully equipped gym with stunning panoramic views of Christchurch provides everything you need for your rehabilitation, and is available for your use during your treatment with us.
With other services such as sports medicine, podiatry, exercise physiology, nutrition and mental skills coaching also on site we can assess your needs and connect with our colleagues to ensure that you get the best possible treatment for your situation.
So whether you’re an elite athlete, a weekend warrior or just like to keep fit and active, everybody and every body is welcome with us.
If your injury is the result of an accident, we can assist with your ACC application – just let us know when you book your appointment or when you come in.
Hand and upper limb injuries, if not thoroughly treated, can lead to long-term impacts on daily life as well as enjoyment of sports.
Hand therapists provide expert treatment for fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, forearms and elbows. Conditions we treat include sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures, repetitive strain injuries, nerve compression conditions such as carpal tunnel, and other chronic conditions such as arthritis.
The Motus Health hand therapists are physiotherapists with sports backgrounds, who have significant expertise in treating sports-related hand injuries. They hold post-graduate qualifications in sports physiotherapy and hand therapy, and are registered with Hand Therapy New Zealand, the governing body that furthers professional status of practitioners.
Because our hand therapists are also fully qualified sports physiotherapists, they will take a holistic view of your injury, not just focussing on your current injury but how this affects your entire upper limb. Our sports hand therapists understand the increased requirements for a return to sport and ensure you as a whole are ready to return to sport, not just your injury.
At our clinics we offer a wide range of off-the-shelf splints, and we can fabricate a customised splint as necessary. Accident-related injuries from the elbow down will often qualify for ACC assistance towards treatment and cost of splinting, when performed by a hand therapist.
If you’ve injured your hand, wrist, forearm or elbow, we can assist with your rehabilitation from acute injury right through to returning to sport. You can book directly with one of our hand therapists without the need for a GP referral.
Feet n Motion is the podiatry division of Motus Health. Our podiatrists at sportshub specialise in lower limb biomechanics, treating injuries and optimising sports performance.
Some of the foot and lower limb related injuries we treat include achilles and plantar fascia pain, Severs disease, Osgood-Schlatters disease, neuromas, metatarsal pain and ingrown toenails. Our sporty clients range in age from 10 to 90 years old!
Our physios and podiatrists will often work together when it’s appropriate to provide you with the optimal care.
Exercise physiologists assess fitness, and develop strengthening and conditioning programs for athletes wanting to enhance athletic performance, and help patients return to fitness and function following medical events, or simply needing to get back in shape.
Baseline testing may include exercise stress tests, VO2 max, lactate and metabolic testing for the higher end athletes, through to walk testing for those returning to activity.
We understand the role nutrition plays in overall health and helping you enjoy your active lifestyle, whether you’re an elite athlete, or simply being proactive about your health.
Our experts can help you to understand your body’s nutritional needs following injury, during recovery phases and pre and post operatively. Optimal nutrition can play a key role in controlling inflammation, providing key nutrients for rebuilding injured tissue, and supporting training needs.
Our dieticians are qualified and experienced in working with sports and active people at all levels to optimise performance or simply help you stay healthy and active.
Todd Astle is a proud Cantabrian and New Zealand Black Cap cricketer. Todd has played for the New Zealand Black Caps in Test, ODI and T20 cricket. He has also played more than 100 first-class matches for Canterbury, and is their leading all-time wicket taker.
It’s often stated that top level sport is all about the ‘top two inches’, or ‘90 % mental’, yet many have no idea where to start when it comes to creating a plan for developing their mindset and mental ‘peak performance’ skills.
Todd has harnessed his learnings and playing experiences over his career, having worked with and alongside so many incredible athletes, coaches and mentors in sport. He aims to facilitate others in reaching their ‘next level’ in any performance domain.
In collaboration with Motus Health, Todd endeavours to help others turn their potential into performance on their path to achieving their goals and dreams.
In working with Todd, clients will gain greater understanding of the key questions – who am I, what do I want, and how do I get there?
Sessions will help to enhance self-awareness, an ability to manage distractions and emotions, coping mechanisms for stress and pressure, as well as a central focus on resilience and wellbeing.

We’re proudly New Zealand owned and operated, with a vision to build on our founders’ legacy of the last 20 years to continue to help Kiwis Live Active. If this inspires you, come and join us!

In addition to this each clinic will hold its own monthly in-service education session and you will be actively participating in presenting some of these. Motus Health has numerous contacts with various sporting teams and organisations, and for those new graduates interested in the field of sports medicine there are ample opportunities to be involved.
